When the system was fully unveiled during E3, it was the first time many developers had seen the hardware. Even PS4 system architect Mark Cerny deliberately held off getting a sneak peek: "The team had been offering to show me what PS4 looks like, even from early prototypes. I decided I wanted to wait and see it along with the rest of the world!" News of the competitive price turned the Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena into an explosion of applause. Our press conference saw indie PS4 games such as Don't Starve by Klei and Transistor by Supergiant Games rubbing shoulders with titles such as Destiny and Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag. On the show floor, games such as Counterspy, Hotline Miami and Hohokum also left showgoers happy, proving the PlayStation portfolio is not just for the Hollywood style blockbusters – grass roots gaming is sowing the seeds of great entertainment, too. Top quote: "I'm getting a PS4 just for the new Octodad game." – TinyBurninator Everybody loves The PlayRoom If there ever was a contender for sleeper hit at E3 2013, The PlayRoom could well be it. Unveiled during the show and using the PlayStation Camera, The PlayRoom is set to be pre-installed on every PS4 so you can play it straight out of the box. A runaway hit at the Sony Computer Entertainment booths, The PlayRoom had queues of people wanting to play peek-a-boo with cute little robots, create 3D toys for them to play with and indulge in a spot of Air Hockey. Innovative augmented reality for everyone, all via the power of PS4. Top quote: "The PlayRoom for PS4 looks amazing." – darianmarshal PlayStation 3 is still going strong While the torch for cutting-edge High Definition entertainment is being passed to PS4, there's still plenty of great gaming experiences to come on PS3. Booths hosting BEYOND: Two Souls and The Last of Us were constantly busy, and the innovation of games such as Puppeteer and Rain kept players coming back. With other show stealers including Batman: Arkham Origins and Diablo III on the way, PS3 is going to keep you glued to your DUALSHOCK 3 wireless controller for a long time to come. Looks so different to anything else out there!" – xRiceyx Snake still has the ability to stop people in their tracks The Konami stand featured a massive cinema screen which showed off a variety of games from the developer's large catalogue, although one PS3 and PS4 title in particular brought any passers-by to an immediate standstill. A colossal nine-minute long trailer to Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain gathered huge crowds similar to when Metal Gear Solid and Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty were revealed at previous E3 shows. Top quote: "Pretty geeked for the new Metal Gear now." – TheProphetLen PlayStation Vita is going from strength to strength PlayStation Vita wasn't lost in all the PS4 excitement either, as games such as Killzone: Mercenary and Tearaway walked away with the critics' acclaim. Coming down the portable pipeline are Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate, The Walking Dead and Dragon's Crown among many other titles which excelled at E3 2013. It's going to be a great year for PS Vita. Top quote: "I got to play Tearaway today, and I am so damn charmed by it. It's adorable." – mariannemiller PS4 convincingly blurs the line between cut-scenes and in-game visuals When The Order: 1866 and The Dark Sorcerer tech demo were revealed, many were amazed that PS4 could create in-game graphics that resembled glossy cut-scenes. To prove it wasn't just smoke and mirrors, Quantic Dream held a live demonstration of The Dark Sorcerer on the show floor, manipulating the scenes from the comedic clip in real time and leaving witnesses slack jawed. Top quote: "The Dark Sorcerer was not only visually STUNNING but absolutely hysterical! Well done!!" – heatherwind PlayStation is the home of quality exclusives If games such as The Last of Us on PS3 and Killzone: Mercenary on PS Vita weren't indication enough, PS4 will feature nearly 40 exclusive experiences to enjoy. From the likes of inFAMOUS Second Son and #DRIVECLUB to an exclusive beta trial for The Elder Scrolls Online and Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag bonus missions, PS4 is the place to be for unique content – and we're just getting started... The series has left the bleak wasteland of planet Helghan behind and set up base on Vekta, and the results are truly spectacular. On show at E3 was a lush woodland level, with Shadow Marshall Lucas Kellan stalking a number of highly intelligent Helghast troops. He has a key advantage: the new OWL, activated by swiping the DUALSHOCK 4 wireless controller's touch pad, which can launch shock attacks, a zipline or a shield. It'll prove crucial in this sprawling, ambitious and deeply satisfying PS4 launch game. #DRIVECLUB is another title that goes all out on the visual front, with a race set on the twisting country roads of the Scottish Highlands proving a refreshing change from traditional circuits. Evolution Studio's design director Paul Rustchynsky said that the team wanted to break away from what racing fans are used to. It's worked – combined with challenges that pop up during events to earn your team points and a thrilling driving model, #DRIVECLUB feels sensational. Ubisoft showed off a number of PS4 games, the highlights of which were Watch_Dogs and new game Tom Clancy's The Division. In a breathless demo, the former showed off its seamless gameplay, with master hacker Aiden Pearce able to speed through Chicago's streets and use his smartphone to distract the chasing police, bring down a chopper and cause a major blackout before slipping into the shadows. The latter places you in a post-apocalyptic world as part of an elite unit, with multiple players working together in an eye-catching New York City. From a city ravaged by a killer virus to one rocked by rioting in Thief, you play as Garrett, the contract fingersmith. Eidos Montreal showed off Garrett's hunt for the Heart of the Lion jewel, along with his Swoop ability for flitting between cover and the tools that'll help him avoid combat. Not that he can't fight, however – how you play is completely up to you. One of the games drawing the biggest queues at the show was Bungie's Destiny. A vast single-player story that can be joined at any time by friends, Bungie showed off an eerie, decaying mega-city called Old Russia. Ruthless beings known as the Fallen will provide stiff opposition in your quest to unravel the mystery of the Traveller, and public events let even more players join in tough, chaotic set piece battles against enemies such as the Devil Walker. The best of PlayStation 3 The latest game from Square Enix poses an intriguing question: how do you solve your own murder? That's the dilemma facing detective Ronan O'Conner, who begins Murdered: Soul Suspect by inspecting his own dead body. Being a ghost has its upsides – you can glide through walls, possess people to gain new information and find clues in the form of psychic imprints, although these are offset by the terrifying demons you'll face in the netherworld known as Dusk. Cheating doom is also the theme running through the brilliantly offbeat Puppeteer. Inspired by game director Gavin Moore's son, as well as his love of surreal Terry Gilliam movies, you play as Kutaro, bidding to escape the clutches of the evil Moon King. As well as roller coaster levels and Kutaro's magical head-swapping ability, Moore revealed that a second player can drop in and out of the fun at any time with a second controller. Fear of the unknown runs through Rain, the melancholy adventure from Japan Studio. As a young boy who can only be seen in the rain, you must fight off nightmarish creatures and save a girl in peril. At E3 the quest proved to be far from straightforward, as puddles and mud stuck to the boy's legs threatened to give him away. Jodie Holmes, the star of BEYOND: Two Souls played by Ellen Page, unveiled more of her past in a segment of the game called Somalia. On a CIA mission to track down a deadly warlord, Holmes befriends a boy willing to help her out and unleashes her spirit companion, Aiden, to devastating effect. The best of PlayStation Vita Shuhei Yoshida, president of SCE Worldwide Studios, suggested we try out Dragon's Crown on PS Vita, and within moments it was easy to see why. Featuring developer Vanillaware's sumptuous hand-drawn visuals, you'll command a party of four fantasy travellers through a series of dungeons. The twist is a combat system that modifies your attacks according to the position of the analog sticks. Shuffling onto PS Vita is the hit zombie game The Walking Dead, featuring an additional chapter called 400 Days. At E3, injured character Lee explored a seemingly abandoned house, discovering some harrowing answerphone messages in the process. It promises to be as touching and shocking as its graphic novel inspiration. Tearaway is the latest project from Media Molecule, and looked in rude health in LA. "We're determined to break the fourth wall in as many ways as we can," animation director Rex Crowle said, which means getting your fingers right into the game. Record players can be slowed down or sped up, papercraft objects can be created in-game and uploaded to the Tearaway website and then printed out and you'll use the rear touch pad to activate bounce pads. Critically acclaimed and visually spectacular, The Last of Us asks: how far will you go to stay alive when survival is everything? Naughty Dog's survival action title drew some of the biggest crowds at E3, and it's easy to see why. Don't miss one of the best games of this generation when it launches on 14 Junes 2013 – exclusively to PS3. Step into the theatre of fantasy Kutaro has a big problem. An evil king has turned our hero into a wooden puppet and swallowed his head, and now only you can save him in this dark fairytale. Puppeteer's colourful, storybook style presentation stood out on the busy E3 show floor. Introducing you to Ying Yang, the ghostly flying cat who helps Kutaro, Puppeteer's E3 demo made great use of its imaginative, theatrical style. As the game's simulated audience gasped and cheered Kutaro's efforts, the players at E3 did the same as they played. One life, two souls Somalia was the setting for the BEYOND: Two Souls E3 demo, giving gamers a great way to experience both the moral complexity of Quantic Dream's new adventure as well as its intense, emotionally charged action. Taking control of the supernaturally powered Jodie Holmes, players joined the troubled heroine in a deadly assassination mission where not everything is what it seems. The Real Driving Simulator returns Racing stepped up a gear at E3 2013 with the arrival of Gran Turismo 6, which featured a roaring new game engine to match its shiny new visual exterior. With a flashy Nissan stand outside of the Los Angeles Convention Centre and rows of customised GT machines set up to play in the conference halls, GT6 took petrolheads for a spin, keeping its speedometer constantly high. Everyone wanted to get behind the wheel to test the realism of Gran Turismo 6, which sped away as one of the most exciting racing games at the show. Save the Lost Kingdom A fantastical world awaits you – summon all your courage for Invizimals: The Lost Kingdom. Step into a third person adventure as Hiro, a young explorer transported to a land under attack from a deadly robot army. Luckily you have 16 powerful Invizimals to battle this destructive menace. If you were lucky enough to play this at E3, you also had the chance to take away some Invizimals trading cards as well to start your collection... Fresh from the fight Free-to-play fighting hits PS3 so it's never been easier to get involved with one of the most popular beat 'em ups ever created. TEKKEN Revolution lets you choose from eight iconic characters to go toe to toe with, such as Marshall Law and Paul Phoenix. Then take on computer-controlled opponents or friends – online or locally – to see who's King of Iron Fist. At E3 2013, few other fighting games could stand up to its finely honed mix of streamlined, accessible moves and deep fighting system. Your enemies will define you Gotham City has never looked more intimidating than in Batman: Arkham Origins. Set several years before those smash hit games, Arkham Origins sees a young Batman learning to become a legendary hero. But that doesn't mean you don't get some cool new toys to play with – Detective Mode now lets you reconstruct crime scenes to discover new clues, and the Remote Claw gives you the chance to tie enemies together – and to objects – for perfect takedown opportunities.
