Take your first steps to mastering dark and powerful sorcery with our Soul Sacrifice demo guide.
The epic Soul Sacrifice demo offers around four hours of action-packed game time – and it's available to download now to your PlayStation Vita from our online store at no extra cost. You can even save your progress and continue your quest to become an all-powerful sorcerer in the full game.
There's no escape... or is there?
As you awaken, imprisoned by the evil sorcerer Magusar in a nightmare cell made of bones, your first thought should be of escape. But how?
Looking around your prison, you'll notice a mysterious book, half hidden under a pile of bones that seems to be calling out to you. This is Librom, an enchanted talking book who will guide you through the world of Soul Sacrifice and be your link to the spirit realm, where you'll learn the dark sorcery that you'll need to escape Magusar's clutches. Open Librom's pages and you'll begin your training – and immediately be thrust into battle where your spell casting skills will be tested.
The sorcerer's apprentice
Initially, you can use a selection of basic skills to fight off the enemies that confront you. Alongside a mysterious companion, powerful melee attacks will help you beat them back, as well as long-range spells that will allow you to pick off the creatures from a distance. Try to link these attacks together for maximum effect, plus lock on to each enemy to give you the best chance of taking them down.
This is a mere taste of the dangers ahead; you're soon confronted by a colossal monster, towering hundreds of metres into the air and seemingly indestructible by your novice sorcery – even with the powerful blocking attack you also have in your arsenal. That is, however, until your companion unleashes a devastating spell that will demonstrate the power of the mystical Black Rites, which will begin to teach you the true meaning of sacrifice...
Save or sacrifice?
As you delve deeper into Librom's pages, more of the legend behind Magusar's descent into madness is revealed – along with the stories of some of the savage creatures that you'll encounter throughout the game. As the dark tale unfolds, you can relive the battles that taught Magusar his immense and destructive powers and begin to learn them for yourself.
The first creatures you'll encounter are a pack of Goblins – vile, rat-like beasts that favour fast, thrusting attacks. Kill one, and you'll be faced with a decision; to save or sacrifice the monster. If you choose to save it, you'll get a boost to your defence power. Show no mercy and choose "sacrifice" however, and you'll receive an increase in your attack power. The Goblin's fate is in your hands... what will you choose?
Personalise your powers
By slaying the monsters in each of the Phantom Quests, you'll receive a new selection of powers to arm yourself with when going into battle. These could be more devastating attacks, powerful defensive abilities, or health regenerating spells to give you a vital energy boost.
You can only take a limited number of these abilities with you into each quest, so it pays to consider your fighting style and the tactics you'll want to use to defeat each monster. As well as customising your powers, Librom will let you change the details in his pages and personalise your sorcerer with new clothing and features. Once you've customised and renamed your character, you can save them – and your progress through this demo – and carry on your quest in the full game.
