Connect to PS3 with Remote Play

Using remote play (via the Internet)

Connect the PSP system to the PS3 system at home via the Internet using an access point (hot spot) of a public Wireless LAN service. By placing the PS3 system in remote play connection standby mode, you can use remote play when you are away from home or even when you are overseas.

  1. Connect to the Internet via a wired or wireless connection
  2. Connect to the PS3 system using an Internet connection
  3. An access point outside of the home
  • To use this feature, the system software of the PS3 system must be version 1.80 or higher.
  • To use remote play via the Internet, you must have a PlayStation®Network account.
  • You may not be able to use remote play via the Internet in some network environments. For details, see Network > [Remote Play] > [Using remote play (via the Internet)] in the PS3 system user's guide.
  • The method of use for a public Wireless LAN service and the charges vary depending on the service provider. For details, contact the service provider.

Preparing to use remote play

To use remote play for the first time, you must register (pair) the PSP system with the PS3 system.

  1. Connect the PSP system to the PS3 system using a USB cable.
  2. From the PSP system's Home Menu, select [USB Connection] under Settings.
  3. From the PS3 system's Home Menu, select [Remote Play Settings] under Settings.
  4. Select [Register Device].
  5. Confirm that a USB connection has been established between the PSP system and the PS3 system, and then select [OK]. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the registration (pairing).

Hints

  • The USB cable for the SIXAXIS Wireless Controller can be used to connect the PSP system to the PS3 system.
  • If you register a PSP system that had been registered with another PS3 system, the registration with the first PS3 system will be cleared.

Preparing the PSP system

Create a network connection for connecting the PSP system to an access point. When connecting the PSP system via an access point that you've used before, you do not have to create a new network connection to use remote play. For more information on connecting via an access point, refer to Settings > [Network Settings] > [Infrastructure Mode] in the PSP system's user guide.

Using remote play

  1. Select [Sign In] under Friends in the PS3 system's Home Menu. To use remote play via the Internet you must sign in to PlayStation Network.
  2. Select [Remote Play] under Network in the PS3 system's Home Menu. The system will enter remote play connection standby mode and your sign-in ID will be displayed.
  3. Select [Remote Play] under Network in the PSP system's Home Menu.
  4. Select [Connect via Internet] for the method of connecting to the PS3 system.
  5. Select the connection for the access point to be used for remote play from the list of connections.
  6. Enter the sign-in ID and password for the PlayStation Network account that is being used on the PS3 system.

 

The PS3 system screen will be displayed on the PSP system when the systems are successfully connected.

  • For details about using remote play, see the PSP system user guide.
  • To connect the PSP system to a PS3 system and use remote play from a location away from home, the PS3 system must be placed in remote play connection standby mode in step 2.
