Take a sneak peek at what the New Year promises for PSP.
There is a lot in store for PSP in 2008. Alongside some of the most stunning games yet, there are a number of releases aimed at increasing the PSP system's functionality even further. Two items expanding the system's functionality are Go!Messenger and Go!Explore, a voice or video messaging service and GPS navigation tool respectively.
Go!Messenger lets you use your PSP to keep in touch with friends for free wherever you have access to a Wireless network, whether at home via a Wireless broadband connection or on the move via public Hotspots. Go!Messenger will be available as a free system software update early in the new year.
Making use of a GPS receiver attachment and a software UMD featuring your chosen maps, Go!Explore offers the very latest in map data and navigation software. Maps and points of interest are upgradeable via downloads, while new maps and guides can be purchased from PLAYSTATION Store (PC).
In terms of games, 2008 is shaping up to be the best year yet for PSP owners. Without doubt one of the most anticipated PSP titles of the New Year is God of War: Chains of Olympus. Developer Ready at Dawn has taken the acclaimed PlayStation 2 title and worked its magic, creating a responsive and visually stunning game that delves into Kratos' dark past.
Another character battling with ghosts is Richter Belmont in Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles. Armed with the Vampire Hunter Whip he battles against the unwholesome minions of the Prince of Darkness in an attempt to rescue his beloved Annette from the bloodsucker's fortress. Featuring new gameplay, updated 3D graphics and revised character designs, Konami has revamped Castlevania: Rondo of Blood for PSP.
A blend of strategy and rhythm, Patapon is a highly addictive new game experience for PSP, where you drum simple rhythms to guide a whole civilisation of tiny warriors. With each of the four PSP action buttons representing a different drum, it's down to you to tap out orders such as attack, defend, advance and retreat.
With PLAYSTATION Store (PC), launched at the end of 2007, for PSP owners there is also the opportunity to download media and game content. With new content appearing every month, including full versions of classic games selected from the extensive back catalogue of PlayStation, the Store is worth keeping your eye on throughout 2008.
The year ahead on PSP is packed with exciting game releases and new ways to use your PSP while on the move. The games mentioned here are just some titles in an amazing cavalcade of wonders gearing up for PSP. With the likes of Batman and Indiana Jones receiving the full Lego treatment just like Star Wars, and cult hits such as Harvey Birdmen: Attorney at Law coming soon, 2008 is going to be a fun year on PSP.
