"It's nice to make music for a different discipline"

PSP®

One of the contributors to the soundtrack for WipEout Pulse on PSP answers question about his involvement in the game.

Breakbeat guru and dance music legend Rennie Pilgrem contributed an exclusive remix of his track Slingshot to the soundtrack of WipEout Pulse on PSP.

Are you a big WipEout fan? If so how long have you been playing?
I like racing games in general (having recently got into motorbikes) and have played WipEout for a while, which I enjoy although there seems to be a bias on it which means that my 8-year-old son keeps doing better than me. Could be a manufacturing fault!

You contributed to the soundtrack for WipEout Pulse – what brought you back to the title this time around?
The game totally lends itself to my sort of music and it's nice to make music for a different discipline rather than just for clubbing. And the bottom line was it was great to be asked because it meant that the Sony people realised that we can come up with the goods.

Do you have a favourite WipEout team?
No, I prefer to be a loose cannon.

What features from the game inspired you when you made the remix?
It was the way the ship moves around the circuit that made us want to make sure that the track was really driving with plenty of interesting sound FX to go with the space age visuals.

How long did the project/remix take?
It actually took less than a week. Doing a track for a game is like a condensed club track. You cut out any excess baggage and try to make sure everything in there is valid. Working with Blim on the tune was also extremely beneficial.

Is the Slingshot remix exclusive to WipEout Pulse or will it be available on vinyl in stores?
We are going to be turning it into a club monster over the next couple of weeks. So you will see it on vinyl and possibly as a download.

Will we be seeing more of your tracks on WipEout games in the future?
Would love to do some more stuff for games but you would have to ask those lovely, talented, generous people at Sony Computer Entertainment Europe.

What else are you working on at the moment?
I have a mix album recorded live at The Cavern in Exeter about to come out on Functional which was inspired by my blurring 'live' and DJing on my Australian Tour in April....So I am promoting that with gigs around Europe. I am currently working on about 15 tracks that rather than appearing on an album may well be a series of EP's instead.
