The action fan's ultimate festive season PlayStation gift guide.

Craving an action kick over the holidays? Then look no further than this cracking collection of some of the biggest and best action titles available on PlayStation right now.

God Of War: Chains Of Olympus (PSP)

Kratos, arguably the toughest man on PlayStation, is shrunk down to fit into the palm of your hands on PSP. Downsizing for PSP doesn't make the Greek warrior's Chains Of Olympus journey anything less than epic as you brawl with giant club wielding Cyclop's, a snake haired Medusa and hundreds of the most feared creatures in Greek Mythology.

With a mission that takes you from the Gates of Hades to the Depths of Tartaru, your journey will be fraught with danger in the dark and brutal world of the mythology of the God Of War universe. Sharpen those swords!

Call Of Duty: World At War (PS3)

Running on the mighty engine that powered last year's breathtaking Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, World At War is the latest astoundingly cinematic entry in the worldwide smash hit series. Returning to the action of World War II, World At War is a shooter that takes place in the remains of a war torn Russia, a ruined Berlin and the beaches and jungles of the deadly Pacific Theatre.

Featuring a spectacular single player and co-op campaign mode, World At War is a shooter no action fan should be without. And with its addictive multi player modes, it will keep in you knee deep in action well into the New Year.

Resistance 2 (PS3)

The alien invasion saga of one of the most riveting PlayStation 3 shooters continues with Resistance 2. Picking up right where Resistance: Fall Of Man left off, this blockbusting sequel sees you back in control of Nathan Hale as he finds himself trapped in a world overrun by the twisted Chimera and fighting the violent alien virus that rages inside his body.

Shifting the battle from England to the United States, Resistance 2 is a bold, action-packed adventure that sees Hale team up with super soldiers, the Sentinels, as they fight off the impending Chimeran invasion. Mixing an epic single player campaign with eight-player online co-op and 60-player competitive online play, Resistance 2 is a must!

Far Cry 2 (PS3)

The long-awaited sequel to the jungle shooter, Far Cry2 has arrived with a bang, immersing you in the scorching heat of the African Plains and an open-world first-person shooting environment like never before. Equipping you with a map, a compass and an array of weaponry including machine guns, pistols, machetes and flamethrowers, Far Cry 2 pits you against The Jackal, an international arms dealer with a price on his head.

Featuring a huge map, vehicles such as boats, trucks, cars and hang-gliders, you can traverse the parched African Plaines any way you want, taking part in a wealth of missions or the frantic and challenging multi player modes.

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns Of The Patriots (PS3)

Solid Snake returns in one of the most stunning PlayStation 3 games to date, set in a war-torn world overrun by mercenaries and huge hulking war machines. Wrapping up a wealth of plot lines that have been unfolding throughout the years in the groundbreaking Metal Gear Solid, Guns Of The Patriots is the definitive Metal Gear Solid experience.

The game also comes packaged with Metal Gear Online, an all-new multiplayer game that allows up to 16 players to battle it out in multiple game modes including Deathmatch, team Deathmatch, Capture and Sneaking missions.

Grand Theft Auto IV (PS3)

Rockstar's open world opus just got even bigger and better with Grand Theft Auto IV, the breathtaking sequel in the series that helped define and create a genre all its own on PlayStation. Taking the action back to Liberty City, GTA IV puts you in control of Niko Bellic, fresh off the boat from Eastern Europe, trying to escape his dark past.

Of course, things don't go as planned and you soon find yourself involved with all sorts of underworld gang leaders as you spiral deeper into debt with your cousin, Roman. A brilliant story, heaps of action, a huge open world and addictive multi player make for some serious action gaming.
