Story

A long time ago...

In Star Wars: Battlefront - Elite Squadron is you can experience action-packed battles that span ground, space and even capital starships as you blast your way through a galaxy spanning original storyline worthy of a Star Wars movie itself.

The plot revolves around X2, a Jedi warrior clone, who along with his other brother X1, trained the Kaminoan clone army for the Jedi masters and council. However, when Order 66 was initiated by the evil Senator Palpatine to hunt down and destroy every Jedi throughout the galaxy, X2's hardened devotion to the army he helped build was completely shattered.

Now, in the midst of the chaos, he's joined the Rebellion to fight alongside the likes of Luke Skywalker and Mace Windu on distant planets and even the Death Star. With the war raging, X2 not only has to deal with the Empire's clone army and the battles ravaging planet after planet, but also his brother who is hunting him down for his desertion.

Star Wars fans are in for a huge treat when they start up Elite Squadron. Developer Rebellion has inundated the game with a massive range of characters from the epic George Lucas series. Anakin Skywalker, Darth Maul, Darth Vader, Yoda, Admiral Ackbar, Darth Tyranus and Jango Fett all make an appearance in battles alongside a host of other characters from the Star Wars universe.

Plus, with 12 locations in total from the film, Elite Squadron is one of the most engaging Star Wars games on PSP. The PSP edition also includes a number of exclusive characters sure to send Star Wars fans' heads spinning - Han Solo, Lando Calrissian, Kit Fisto and Chewbacca are all fully playable throughout any of the game's maps and modes.

Gameplay

Rebel, rebel

The game features all the combat you've come to expect from the acclaimed Star Wars: Battlefront series on PSP, but the twist with Elite Squadron is that you now take the action into space. For example, one objective on a particular mission sees you work together with your Rebel Force teammates as you try to take down an ion cannon and use it to lower the shields of an enemy starship orbiting the planet you're fighting on.

You can then grab a ship and take to the stars by simply flying as high as you can and using the directional buttons, transition to space. Once you've taken to the stars you can then board the starship with your fellow fighters to blow up the ship's reactor or use its hulking laser cannon to blast planet bound enemies. With the ship about to blow, you simply jump into an escape pod and travel back down to the planet to assist in finishing off the Empire's troops before claiming victory. Suffice to say, Elite Squadron crams in a vast amount of action packed hours and a star fleet full of highly engrossing objectives throughout each of its missions.

While in the previous Battlefront games the single player campaign simply consisted of playing through the multiplayer maps, Elite Squadron's solo mode is much more in-depth, tasking you with completing certain objectives such as repairing turrets and using a particular weapon in battle. It also serves as a great way to learn the layout of each of the game's maps, which will come in extremely useful when you dive into Elite Squadron's highly addictive multiplayer modes.

Star Wars: Battlefront - Elite Squadron's greatest asset for prolonged play is its multiplayer modes. With up to 16 players competing in Infrastructure Mode, it can really feel like you're in the middle of one of the greatest Star Wars battles ever. For instance, you could initially spawn onto the map on a planet and engage in an all-out blaster war before stealing an aerial vehicle and taking on opposing players in a dogfight over the battlefield.

Or, you could simply choose to leave the planet as soon as you have acquired aerial transport and head into space to do battle in the stars before boarding a star destroyer or capital ship. The opportunities for vast amounts of varied play and a galaxy full of fun are only limited to your imagination and how you opt to approach each map's primary goals.

With a plethora of content, an engrossing single player mode complete with an all-new story that sheds even more light on the Star Wars story, frenetic multiplayer and a stunning roster of characters and vehicles, Star War: Battlefront - Elite Squadron is a must-play for fans of the greatest sci-fi saga of all time.
