Discover some of the greatest tunes ever heard in video games - all available to download from PlayStation Store.

Some of the best games ever created for PlayStation have incredible music to match - and you can download these memorable soundtracks from PlayStation Store. Sit back, listen and enjoy...

The go-getter - MotorStorm Apocalypse
Perfect for: Getting ready for a night out.

Here's a team of musicians who know how to get you out of your seat. Hollywood composer Klaus Badelt, electronica trio Noisia, pioneering turntablist DJ Shadow and award-winning producer Elite Force created the perfect soundtrack to one of the most engaging racing games on PlayStation 3, MotorStorm Apocalypse.

With a mixture of haunting orchestral arrangements and adrenaline pumping beats, there are 28 tunes spanning nearly 80 minutes of music to get you ready for a great time.

The record breaker - echochrome ii
Perfect for: Reading or relaxing.

The mind-bending PlayStation Move puzzle game on PS3 is known for its incredible optical illusions, obstacles and mystery. Now it's known for another amazing feat: being accepted into the Guinness Book of World Records for the longest single music track in video game history.

At 75 minutes and 7 seconds long, echochrome ii's single track is a majestic journey of pianos and string driven music that took five continuous days to compose. Its beautiful, complex melodies are sure to relax you after a hard day's work.

The tear-jerker - Heavy Rain
Perfect for: Writing that edgy movie script you've been putting off.

One of the most memorable games ever created, Heavy Rain's soundtrack suits its gameplay - emotional, intense and passionate. The haunting orchestral composition of the PS3 adventure title was recorded at the legendary Abbey Road Studios in London, England, and creates a powerful atmosphere for some of the game's most unforgettable moments.

The mood lifter - Flower
Perfect for: Putting your feet up and appreciating beauty.

Composed by Vincent Diamante, Flower's soundtrack runs to over an hour of enchanting music breezily complements the PS3 game which has been described as a visual poem.

Like Flower's gameplay, the soundtrack drifts, glides and soars you through its beautiful, delicate sounds, transporting you to a dreamlike world of wonder. Flower's music is exactly what you want to listen to when you're a little blue and need a gentle lift.

The world beater - Journey
Perfect for: A little more artistic appreciation and relaxation

If you're after the perfect follow up to Flower, the hauntingly uplifting Journey soundtrack is just the ticket to some thoughtful relaxation. Featuring the talents of critically acclaimed composer Austin Wintory, the Journey soundtrack has already topped the worldwide iTunes charts, becoming one of the best-selling albums across the globe on the popular music service.

The excitement builder - the Uncharted series
Perfect for:
Going on a mysterious road trip.

With the fantastic Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception on PS3 and Uncharted: Golden Abyss on PlayStation Vita wowing audiences everywhere, it should come as no surprise that the series has a special soundtrack to match its action-packed adventures.

Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception and Uncharted: Golden Abyss each have a downloadable score with dozens of tracks that capture the thrills of the classic PlayStation series, creating an atmosphere that's exotic, heroic and exhilarating. If you want to feel like a daring adventurer, download these soundtracks from PlayStation Store today.

The blood-pumper - the God of War series
Perfect for: Conquering your fears.

Drums, horns and dramatic chanting - it can only be the music that accompanies the epic God of War titles on PS3 and PSP. The games which broke new ground for the action adventure genre see anti-hero Kratos rip through Greek myth and legend on a rampaging romp of revenge. So it's only fitting that his soundtrack is full of epic, chest-thumping orchestral energy.

Whether you're pumping yourself up for a skydive or getting ready to take down Zeus, the God of War Trilogy Soundtrack and God of War: Ghost of Sparta Original Soundtrack will make you feel as powerful as Kratos himself.

The difference makers - inFAMOUS 2, Resistance 3 and Unit 13
Perfect for: When you want something a little out of the ordinary.

The innovative use of bins, water jugs and broken glass for the inFAMOUS soundtrack on PS3 sets the tone for inFAMOUS 2's score, which is available to download in two forms: The Red Soundtrack and The Blue Soundtrack.

Composers Jim Dooley and JD Mayer worked with New Orleans band Galactic and former Guns N' Roses drummer, Bryan Mantia, to create a diverse sound for the city of New Marais. An electric fusion of orchestral, jazz, rock and funk is the result, delivering a grand sense of drama to match the heroic - or more dastardly - deeds of Cole MacGrath.

With 22 tracks, The Blue Soundtrack features over 74 minutes of music to suit your heroic side, while The Red Soundtrack lets you walk on Cole's darker path with over 77 minutes of menacing musical accompaniment, spread across 22 tracks.

Similarly atmospheric is Boris Salchow's Resistance 3 soundtrack and Justin Burnett's score for PS Vita special forces title Unit 13. Both are full of danger, adrenaline and intrigue that are sure to offer a bit of orchestral diversity to your collection.

The perky motorist - ModNation Racers: Road Trip
Perfect for: A jaunty pick-me-up

Fancy moving to more racing music? Then the ModNation Racers: Road Trip soundtrack should get your toes tapping with the inspirational musical musings of talented artists Lovechild, Brain, BZ Lewis, Woody Jackson, Melissa Reese and Headquarters Music.

Honourable mentions

Don't miss these three hidden gems that are sure to have you humming along to them:

Shatter - A respectful nod to classic video game music, electro, '80s new wave and glam rock, Shatter's soundtrack is a rich and unique audio experience.

The Fight - Want to scratch a hip hop itch? Twenty-eight tracks from the likes of Mr Mensah, SharpNine and John Fulford are sure to do the trick with The Fight's hard-hitting soundtrack.

PixelJunk Eden - Enter the blissfully minimalistic delight of 12 techno tracks created in collaboration with the acclaimed DJ Baiyon. The PixelJunk Eden Album captures the magical feel of the refreshingly original platform game.
