Home on the horizon

The PlayStation®Home Closed Beta test is being extended. Read on for the details...

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has announced that it will extend the closed beta testing periodfor PlayStation®Home gradually throughout summer 2008. PlayStation®Home will then transition to an open beta towards the end of 2008, when it will become available to download for all registered PlayStation®Network users.

PlayStation®Home is the visual representation of the PlayStation Community - a free-to-download, constantly evolving online social gaming service built for PS3 users to meet and share gaming experiences in a High Definition 3D world.

"We understand that we are asking PS3 and prospective PS3 users to wait a bit longer, but we have come to the conclusion that we need more time to refine the service to ensure a more focused gaming entertainment experience than what it is today", said Kazuo Hirai, President and Group CEO, Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. "Our overarching objective is to provide users with new game experiences that are available only on PlayStation Home. Spending more time on the development and on the Closed Beta testing reaffirms our commitment to bringing a quality service, maintaining the PlayStation tradition."

Further details about this exciting new service will be announced as they become available, so keep checking eu.playstation.com for a chance to get involved in Home.
