Story

City of ghosts

Ghostbusters: Sanctum of Slime on PlayStation 3 features a brand new storyline in the poltergeist police's universe written by the editor of The Real Ghostbusters comic, Tom Waltz.

The story begins almost 4,000 years ago with the deaths of an ancient demon called Dumazu and members of the cult that worshipped him. It then jumps forward in time to the present day, showing you what happened to Janosz Poha, the curator of the Manhattan Museum of Art who had been possessed by the demon, Vigo, in the Ghostbusters II film.

Poha, it turns out, was sent to a psychiatric institution but released years later. While there, he met a man named Ismael, who claimed to be the last known member of the cult that served Dumazu. Ismael tasked him with locating a shard of the Relic of Nilhe, a mystical artefact with the power to resurrect the evil entity.

Poha found it, and as a result New York became with ghastly ghouls. This is where you come in as the leader of a team of rookies battling the reign of ghostly terror taking over the streets of the Big Apple.

Gameplay

New team, new weapons

There are 12 missions in total for you to blast your way through in Ghostbusters: Sanctum of Slime on PlayStation 3. These include the lair of a gargantuan spider, a graveyard and the New York City Subway. Helping you along the way is a series of colour-coded weapons, each of which is perfect for destroying specific creatures of the night.

For example, yellow ghosts are extremely strong and require you to switch to the new Fermion Shock weapon, while red ghosts are much weaker and will vanish quickly after a hit from the Proton Stream. As you battle through the missions you'll have to defeat swarms of enemies, including possessed people, zombies and even demonic wheelchairs. Yes, really, demonic wheelchairs.

Once you reach the end of a level, you're tasked with defeating a hulking boss. Here's a tip - stay on the move whenever you and your team come face-to-face with one. The more you dart around, the less chance you have of being hit.

Be sure to destroy as many objects in the environment as possible too; they might hold some classic Ghostbusters collectibles to help boost your game score.

Multiplayer

Taking the Slime online

In Ghostbusters: Sanctum of Slime you can invite up to three of your friends or up to three other players via PlayStation Network to help rid New York City of its ghost problem in the game's co-operative multiplayer mode.

While you can play the game on your own with computer-controlled teammates, there's nothing quite like joining forces with friends to battle it out for the highest possible scores.

The game can also be played offline with up to three friends provided you have enough wireless controllers to go around. Once you're ready to fight ghouls, just choose from one of the four brand new characters including the leader, Alan Crendall, Samual Hazer and the blue-haired Bridget Gibbons.
