Story

Guerrilla warfare

In Bionic Commando 2 Rearmed on PlayStation 3, you play as super enhanced soldier of fortune, Nathan Spencer. Spencer, last seen destroying the weapon of mass destruction known as Albatross has been tasked with a top secret seek and destroy mission on the island of Papagayan.

Facing off against the ruthless dictator General Sabio, it's up to you and your teammates to take Sabio and his forces down using your bionic arm and a huge arsenal of weaponry, before they can lay waste to the FSA's headquarters.

Unfortunately, when you land on the island, things take a turn for the worse when you are separated from your Special Forces squad and set upon by an unknown entity lurking in the lush jungle environment. It soon becomes a question of who will survive, what will be left of them and just what is it that's hunting you and your team.

Gameplay

Like the original Bionic Commando Rearmed on PlayStation 3, Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 is a 2D platforming game that sees you utilise your bionic arm to traverse each of the sprawling levels. Your bionic arm can be used to swing to unreachable areas, hoist you up onto platforms and as a defence mechanism in battle. For example, if an enemy is crouched behind a barrel you can attach your arm to it, yank it towards you and then throw it back at them. You can also use your arm to grab enemies and use them as shields, stop bullets and repel some of the game's larger foes.

The game features a number of new moves including the ability to jump, which has not appeared previously in the 2D version of Bionic Commando. Another new power at your disposal is Death From Above, which allows you to slam the ground when falling from a height. It's perfect for taking out large groups of enemies and destroying barriers that block your path.

Spencer can now be upgraded too. Throughout each of the missions, and with a little exploration, you'll find various enhancements. These range from equipment such as grenade launchers through to a super-powered uppercut and a health regenerator. Once you've found the upgrade, simply press SELECT on your wireless controller and choose it from the options menu. You can only use one upgrade at a time, though, so choose wisely. With new weaponry in your arsenal you'll be able to return to previous missions and explore areas that weren't accessible at the outset of the game.

Multiplayer

Super platoon

Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 features an offline two player co-operative campaign mode, which means you and a friend can team up and blast through each of the missions together. In co-operative mode you will have to work closely together to defeat the game's bosses by approaching each one with more thought than in the single player campaign.

At certain points in the game there are bosses that require one of you to disable them with your bionic arm, while the other hits them with a barrage of gunfire when they're down.

Challenge Rooms also make a welcome return. The goal is to manoeuvre through a tricky obstacle course in the fastest time possible to get the best scores. Sounds simple? It isn't. The Challenge Rooms are even tougher than the campaign mode, so if you want to claim the top spot, you're going to have to practise.
