PlayStation®3

All the latest PlayStation news, fresh from the Consumer Electronics Show in glitzy Las Vegas, Nevada.

Now in its 40th year, the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas is one of the world's biggest technology trade shows, giving attendees a glimpse of the future with new product announcements, and first looks at some of the things we'll be watching, listening to and playing in years to come. There's been plenty of news from Sony this year; here's a lowdown on the big stories coming out of the city of sin.

An exciting innovation for movie fans is the Portable Copy feature soon to be introduced for PlayStation 3 and PSP. Put simply, this allows you to use your PlayStation 3 to make an optimised Standard Definition copy of a Blu-ray Disc movie to play on your PSP. So soon you'll be able to take your Blu-ray Disc movie collection with you wherever you go. And you won't have to worry about storage space either, thanks to Sony Computer Entertainment's announcement of a 16 GB Memory Stick - twice as large as the previous largest memory stick available and able to hold up to 4,000 songs, 2,500 photos or 20 hours of video.

That's not all the good news to come out of CES for PSP owners. If you have a PSP Slim & Lite, you will be able to take advantage of Skype the internet telephone service with more than 246 million registered members. Skype, which will become available through a System Software update, allows free calls between Skype users and low cost calls to landlines and mobile through the SkypeOut service.

In other good news for Blu-ray fans, film studio Warner Brothers has announced that they will now be releasing their movies exclusively on the Blu-ray Disc High Definition format. This announcement means PS3 owners will be able to enjoy blockbuster movies such as the Harry Potter Series, I am Legend, and upcoming Batman sequel, The Dark Knight in full High Definition glory, along with movies from Disney, MGM, 20th Century Fox and Sony Pictures - all producing High Definition movies exclusively for Blu-ray Disc.

2008 promises to be an exciting year for PlayStation fans. Keep checking eu.playstation.com for more news on these features and more, coming soon.
