PlayStation games receive a multitude of nominations for the British Academy Video Games Awards 2007.
Shortlisting for the gaming British Academy Film and Television Awards has closed. After weeks of voting by BAFTA Games members, approved industry figures and journalists, the initial selections have gone to specially selected juries and the final nominees chosen.
Leading the nominations for PlayStation is God of War II. Santa Monica Studio's wayward and brutal Spartan son has been put forward in five categories - best Action and Adventure, Original Score, Story and Character, Technical Achievement, and Use of Audio.
Following in the footsteps of Kratos are a number of PlayStation 3 titles. Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction is up for best Action and Adventure, and Artistic Development, and is joined in the latter category by Heavenly Sword, which has also been nominated for best Story and Character. SingStar and Eye of Judgment have been nominated in the Casual and Innovation categories respectively. Both MotorStorm and Uncharted: Drake's Fortune earned nominations for Technical Achievement, with the off-road racer securing a spot on the starting grid in the Sports category too.
On the music front, Guitar Hero II, like its predecessor, has done well in this year's vote, receiving four nominations in all. Garnering further musical acclaim are the nominations for best Original Score with Lair on PlayStation 3 and Okami, Final Fantasy XII and, as already mentioned, God of War II, being acknowledged.
As well as best Original Score, Clover Studios' celestial painting adventure, Okami, has brushed up to take nominations in four additional categories - Artistic Achievement, Innovation, Story and Character, and Technical Achievement.
In the only category to be voted for by the public, EA's FIFA 07 on PlayStation 2, Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories on PSP, and Insomniac's Resistance: Fall of Man on PlayStation 3, are all in the running.
