"A powerful media centre"

Prestigious award highlights the PlayStation 3 system's home entertainment credentials.

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) has been recognised by the European Imaging and Sound Association (EISA) for the very first time, with PlayStation 3 receiving the award for home entertainment.

Internationally known for the European EISA Awards, EISA started in 1982 when the editors-in-chief from five European photo magazines came together to select their camera of the year for the first time.

Over time, the panel has grown to include representatives from 47 magazines across 18 different European countries. Once a year, the editors-in-chief from all EISA member magazines meet to decide which of the products reviewed in their publication during the past year deserve an EISA Award.

Awards are made in six categories (Audio, Video, Home Theater, Photography, Mobile Electronics and Convergence) and PS3 picked up the award for European Media Centre in the Convergence category after the judges praised its multimedia credentials.

Describing it as "a wonderful example of a powerful media centre", they pointed to its ability to play music, picture and video content, as well its wide range of media storage options and connectivity to other devices and the Internet.

“To receive an EISA Award is a very high honour in the electronics industry and therefore to receive one for a product that is usually thought of as simply a games machine, truly highlights the versatility and quality of PS3,” said David Reeves, President, SCEE. “We firmly believe that PlayStation 3 has the capabilities to sit at the heart of the living room and very much belongs there. This award highlights that claim.''
