Set your own wallpaper, send a smiley to a friend and hear upscaled CD playback with version 1.90 of PS3 system software.
As part of the ongoing program of system software updates that bring new functionality to PlayStation 3 on an ongoing basis, version 1.90 is now available.
A variety of new features are included in the update, such as the ability to use a photo as a wallpaper background on the PS3 Home Menu (as is already possible on PSP). Text chat is also enhanced, allowing you to use a variety of emoticons when creating messages to send to friends. Hopefully people will enjoy using this feature :-)
Additionally, audio CD output can be upscaled, making music playback better than ever.
System software version 1.90 is available now from the Help & Support section of this website, or via the PS3 system's Network Update option, found under System Settings on the Home Menu.
