Into shooters? PlayStation 3 is the home of epic first-person combat - here are some of the biggest titles set to hit shelves this year...

Haze

Free Radical Design - the team behind the TimeSplitters series and the psychic adventure Second Sight on PlayStation 2 - is set to make its next generation debut on PS3 with Haze. An original game set in a future where military operations have been privatised, the player is cast as as a soldier fighting for the Mantel corporation. The latest trailer for Haze indicates that you won't be following a conventional career path, though...

Half-Life: The Orange Box

The Half-Life series has traditionally been the preserve of PC owners - aside from the excellent PS2 conversion of the original game. PS3 owners can catch up with Valve Software's dramatic tale thanks to The Orange Box, though, which comprises five games: Half-Life 2, Half-Life 2: Episode One, Half-Life 2: Episode Two, Portal, and Team Fortress 2. That's a lot of game for your money - and each and every one should be fantastic.

Unreal Tournament 3

Epic's Unreal Tournament is synonymous with fast-paced multiplayer combat and amazing, varied arenas - you can expect more of the same with the arrival of UT3. Using the advanced Unreal Engine 3 - which no team knows like Epic, the company that created it - the game features some of the most incredible graphics yet seen on PS3 - and the lightning fast gameplay that's made the series a perennial multiplayer favourite since its inception.

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare

A series famed for its visceral portrayal of World War II dispenses with history and goes for a modern-day setting - with PS3 technology providing a technological tour de force. In-depth multiplayer features unlockable rewards and statistic tracking, while visuals are among the most impressive yet seen. Make no mistake, developers are really tapping into the raw power on offer with PS3.
