UK's Official PlayStation Magazine relaunches with a fresh focus on PS4 and new retro section
For seven years Official PlayStation Magazine UK has been the place to come for all your PS2, PS3 and PS Vita needs – be they exhaustive analysis, biting opinion, forthright reviews or indeed all of the above.
Now, with PS4 looming large and pretty on the horizon, OPM is changing. From this month onwards, OPM will still be delivering all of the above, but the main focus will be Sony's colossal new machine. To reflect that, OPM have redesigned the entire mag to feel cleaner and more modern, and offer bespoke gifts each month. For the relaunch issue, that means 30 Days of PlayStation Plus and a double sided The Last Of Us poster for every reader.
As well as overhauling the magazine visually, OPM have introduced two new sections. One is Network, and encompasses online reviews, new DLC, PS Plus highlights, a Minis chart, music, movies and trophies. Equally excitingly, OPM have decided to celebrate PlayStation's incredible heritage in RetroStation, a nine-page section that brings a close to the mag. Classic Game sees an iconic PS title revisited – MGS3, for the reboot issue – while in Don't Make Me Play, one of the team is forced to play a game they've always desperately tried to avoid. Phil tackled Green Day: Rock Band this issue, while footballphobe Leon takes on FIFA next. OPM's new Halls Of Fame, charting the best of PS3, PSN and Vita, are also housed here.
The relaunch issue features no fewer than four PS4 exclusives – features on Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, Watch Dogs, Call Of Duty: Ghosts, and Driveclub – and you can look forward to similarly unparalleled access to all the biggest next-gen games in the lead-up to the console's launch later this year, and beyond.
