Play the all new Online Battle mode of PixelJunk Shooter 2 like a pro with these top tips from the game's developer, Q Games.

PixelJunk Shooter 2 on PlayStation 3 has a fierce Online Battle multiplayer mode with surprises lying around every corner. To prepare you for the adrenaline-pumping battles to come, the staff at Q-Games share their top item combinations. You can choose up to three items to help you defeat your opponent and climb the online leaderboard.

Join in the fun by trying out these sure-fire strategies for success today.

Andrew Palmer, artist

Item 1: Proximity Mine
Item 2: Magma Resistance
Item 3: Speed Up

Mines are great for taking your opponent by surprise or for guarding your base, and Magma Resistance is awesome on stages featuring hot lava. Not only does it allow you to quickly escape through areas your enemy cannot enter, it also allows you to grab their token when they die. The Speed Up item is great for speedy flying and can be very useful on stages with open areas, meaning you can quickly grab survivors before your opponent even knows where you are.

Take care, as sometimes you can end up getting killed by your own mine if you are fighting your rival close to it, and Magma Resistance can also run out unexpectedly if you're not careful.

Satoshi Ogino, artist

Item 1: Camouflage
Item 2: Mirage
Item 3: Spread Missile

This stealthy combination of items allows you to hide yourself with the Camouflage item, disguising your ship as an innocent survivor character. While still camouflaged, attacking with the Spread Missiles will fire out a three-way barrage of hurt, so there's no need to worry about precise aiming. Plus, you can use Mirage to create a deadly duplicate and confuse your opponent.

You can easily blow your cover if you're not careful with Camouflage, so watch out.

Rowan Parker, planner

Item 1: Reverse Controls
Item 2: Proximity Mine
Item 3: Tomahawk Missile

Use Reverse Controls to confuse your opponent, and then hit them with Tomahawk Missiles to home in on them for a quick kill. Then you can use Proximity Mines to control the map.

Remember that experienced players can dodge the Proximity Mines, deflect the Tomahawk Missiles and cope with the reversed controls.

Dylan Cuthbert, executive producer and founder of Q-Games

Item 1: Radar
Item 2: Reverse Controls
Item 3: Reflective Missile

This is a really cool combo, as Reflective Missiles are lethal when shot into confined areas and can confuse the other player - even reversing their controls. Fire Reflective Missiles at them to give yourself 15 to 20 seconds of freedom.

Reflective Missiles can damage your ship too, so try not to use them when you are attacking.

Naohiro Kimura, lead planner

Item 1: Camouflage
Item 2: Reverse Controls
Item 3: Anything!

This is the ultimate ambush combo! Use Camouflage in your own or your opponent's base, and, when they come flying by, throw them for a loop by using Reverse Controls. After they've gone into full panic mode, hit them with your best shot. It's an especially effective strategy when all survivor characters are in one base. Beware though; it only works on the same opponent once.

Ariel Angelotti, assistant producer

Item 1: Magma Ball
Item 2: Position Change
Item 3: Resurrection

Magma Balls can be pretty deadly when used effectively, and nothing beats shooting one above your ship right before using the Position Change item to swap places with the enemy. Your opponent will be greeted with loads of magma from above - they won't know wha's hit them. If you have a tendency to die untimely deaths as I do, Resurrection revives your ship in a pinch.

If your opponent has the Fluid Converter item equipped, they can turn your ball of hot liquid death into a mere dousing of water. Plus, magma will deflect off walls, so be careful which direction you fire it in.

Kalin, programmer

Item 1: Camouflage
Item 2: Sticky Ship
Item 3: Footprint

The Sticky Ship, an item which causes your opponent to stick to walls, allows you to kill opponents without the need for other special items, and Footprint is a fantastic tool for tracking them down when they're defending - it definitely keeps the pressure on. Tricking your opponent with the Camouflage item can be fun, too. Catch them by surprise as they bring a survivor into their capture point only to be met with sudden death.
