Download the Vanquish demo today for a taste of full throttle space war action on PlayStation 3.

With Vanquish arriving in October 2010 on PS3, Sega has unleashed a demo on PlayStation Store for you to get to grips with. Check out this guide to mastering the Vanquish demo available for free on PlayStation Store now.

Suit up

The first thing you will need to do in the Vanquish demo is get familiar with the control system. Use the left stick to move Sam, the game's main character and the right stick to control the camera's movements. To aim your weapon, press the L1 button and to fire, press the R1 button. If you want to duck behind cover in the middle of a firefight, tap the Square button.

When taking cover you can pop out and fire at enemies or press the Triangle button to throw grenades. When you're up close and personal with an opponent, press the Circle button for a vicious melee attack - it's guaranteed to knock your enemy to the floor! Lastly, and most importantly, press the L2 button to use Sam's power sliding ability. It's perfect for speeding past waves of enemies and dodging enemy fire.

Weapon select

At the outset of the demo you have four weapons to choose from. You can cycle through each one by pressing the directional buttons. The weapons on offer throughout the demo include a shotgun, assault rifle, heavy machine gun and two types of grenade.

Ready? Time to fight!

Weapons on

The action moves fast in the Vanquish demo so you'll have to have your wits about you. Remember to use cover at all time by pressing the Square button. It's the best way to stay out of the enemy's line of fire. However, don't be afraid to use your power sliding ability to get up close and personal for a melee attack.

During the first assault, there's a platform to the right of the arena that has a sniper rifle located in an arms crate - grab it, it's perfect for picking off the gunners on the platform above the arena. Once they're down, take out the troopers operating the Mech warriors and then take control of one to take out the last remaining enemies.

Aerial Assault

Now that you have defeated the first wave of enemies, the next section of the demo opens up. Take control of one of the mounted guns and start blasting the enemy aerial transports that drop in below you. Once they're down, it's time for the big fight!

Robot rockin'

The final part of the Vanquish demo is a huge armoured robot called the KNRB-0 Argus. The best way to destroy the Argus robot in its first form (a spider-like Mech) is to shoot the exposed joints. Once you've done that, aim for the red core on the top of its head.

Once that's destroyed, the Argus will transform into a building sized beast that bombards you with rockets, lasers and machine gun fire. Weaken it by blasting its exposed joints once more, then when it's stunned, aim for the core on its chest - blast that enough and the battle is yours!

See you if you can take the heat and download the Vanquish demo for free from PlayStation Store today.
