Make a wish

Story

Make a wish

Welcome freaks, foes and fiends to a brand new Twisted Metal tournament on PlayStation 3 courtesy of the master of the macabre, Calypso.

In Twisted Metal the goal is simple - compete in a series of anarchic arenas and, if you win, this mysterious man will grant your greatest wish, your one true yearning or anything else that your blackened heart desires. If you fail, well, you'll wish you had never been born at all.

The game takes you on a deliciously dark journey into the darkest recesses of the gaming world as you follow the terrifying stories of the competitors as they blaze a trail of gore and glory through Calypso's tournament. It'll take nerves of steel, a strong stomach and, most of all, a sprinkling of insanity to make it to the end in one piece.

Do you think you have what it takes? Then rev your engines, ready your weapons and roar into action with Twisted Metal on PS3.

Killer clowns, supermodels and stuntmen

Characters

Killer clowns, supermodels and stuntmen

There are three characters for you to take control of throughout the single player campaign in Twisted Metal: Sweet Tooth, Dollface and Mr Grimm.

Sweet Tooth is a crazed killer clown who drives an ice cream van and controls the gang known as the Clowns. His real name is Marcus Kane, a middle-aged man who once led a normal life, before he snapped and transformed himself into the monster he is today. If he wins, his wish is simple - to find his daughter who somehow managed to escape his killing spree.

Dollface is Krista Sparks, a supermodel whose face was scarred in a car accident. After facial reconstruction surgery, she was told to wear the bizarre mask you see in the game as a means to treat her wounds. But when she returned to have it removed, her doctor had disappeared and the mask was stuck forever, slowly driving her insane. Now, she's taken part in the Twisted Metal competition to wish for the mask to be removed for good.

The last of three playable characters is Mr Grimm, an African American man named Daniel Grimm who has turned from a Hollywood stuntman into a criminal and mass murderer. If he wins the tournament, his wish is to return to the night his father died and prevent it from happening.

Automobile anarchy

Gameplay

Automobile anarchy

Are you ready to rumble in the Twisted Metal tournament? First, choose your primary vehicle and two alternative vehicles from the Garage menu at the outset of the game.

These two additional automobiles are there for when your health runs low during battle, so look out for the wrench icon on the radar and race to it to switch between cars. Once your damaged vehicle is in the garage, it will steadily recharge.

There are over a dozen vehicles to choose from in the game including an ice cream van that transforms into a robot, a hearse that fires coffins or even a souped-up helicopter. Make sure you choose wisely, as this could make the difference between winning and dying in the blood-drenched arenas Calypso has in store for you.

Each vehicle is kitted out with a large arsenal including a sidearm and a main weapon which, once fired, takes a little time to recharge, so use it sparingly. Additional firepower can be collected by driving over the weapon icons scattered throughout the arena and include sniper rifles, remote bombs, shotguns and even napalm. Once you're weapon hot, it's up to you to win and prove to the world that you are the true Twisted Metal champion.

Twisted Metal features a number of thrilling multiplayer modes including online competitive play for you and up to fifteen other players via PlayStation Network. If you want to keep the action confined to your living room, then grab up to three of your friends and battle it out in a vast array of local split-screen multiplayer modes.

Twisted Metal's multiplayer includes Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Last Man Standing, Hunted and Nuke modes. In Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch the goal is simple - hunt your opponents down and obliterate them on the track.

In Last Man Standing, you begin the match with an allotted number of lives. Lose them all and you're out, but if you survive to the end you will be crowned king of the ring.

In Hunted, one player is selected as the target and the remaining players are tasked with destroying them. In Nuke, it's all out war between two teams as you battle to destroy your opponent's statue and defend your own.

Twisted Metal is one of the most multiplayer packed PS3 games of 2012, so once you've mastered the single player campaign take your favourite character online and show the world who's the boss.
