Overview
A third person action game, rich in combat and from the mind of Tim Schafer and Double Fine Productions, Brütal Legend delivers lighter-flicking fun sure to melt your face clean off.
Brütal Legend tells the tale Eddie Riggs, the ultimate roadie. With a love for hot rods and a photographic memory for every Heavy Metal album cover, and the lyrics those albums contained, committed to memory, Eddie has always felt out of place, like he should have been born earlier, when the music was real.
One night a stage accident knocks Eddie unconscious. He is sucked into a world that looks very strange yet oddly familiar; a world where every metal album cover and lyric Eddie knows has come to life, a world where the evil emperor Doviculus and his demon army, The Tainted Coil, have enslaved the last remaining humans.
Led by Lars Halford, his sister Lita and the mysterious Ophelia, the human resistance lack someone to bring them all together, someone who can organise and lead them into battle; what they need is a roadie.
Under Eddie's command, this barbaric force of hot rods, Marshall stacks, leather, and chrome will bring this ancient world into the age of Metal.
- Deep, rewarding, fun combat that will have you throwing your "devil horns" in the air
- Experience a truly unique world unlike anything you've seen before
- The epic cast of Brütal Legend features vocal talent provided by some of Metal's biggest names, including Rob Halford of Judas Priest, Lemmy Kilmister of Motörhead, Lita Ford and more

A headbanger's ball
Lead an army against an evil general in a strange new world full of heavy metal in Tim Schafer's Brütal Legend on PS3.
A Roadie's quest
Brütal Legend tells the heavy metal tale of Eddie Riggs, played by Hollywood superstar and front man of the band Tenacious D, Jack Black, who is drawn back through time to a mythical world immersed in rock 'n' roll folklore where great metal titans once ruled and power chords rang from the countryside for all to hear.
When the oppressed people of this strange new world request Eddie's knowledge of modern warfare, he draws on his own experience from the only occupation he's ever had, a lifelong roadie for a long list of bands. Through this headbanging collaboration springs the most 'hellacious' army man has ever seen, and sets in motion one of the funniest adventures yet on PlayStation 3.
Written and designed by Tim Schafer, the comic genius behind such classic PlayStation games as Psychonauts on PlayStation 2, the game riffs on the covers of metal's yesteryear as well as the lyrics found in some of rock 'n' roll's classic and somewhat forgotten songs. And with a knockout performance from Jack Black in the title role, Brütal Legend is an adventure gaming fan's wildest ride yet.
Genre blender
The game itself is a blend of genres, melding action, adventure and a dash of realtime strategy (RTS) in a huge open world ready for you to explore. While you begin the game fighting alone using Eddie's mythical axe and guitar to perform riffs that can either electrocute or blast enemies off their feet, you'll soon make friends with characters around the world that are pivotal to Brütal Legend's action packed gameplay during story-driven missions.
During these moments, Brütal Legend becomes an RTS game with you commanding legions of troops on the battlefields designed to look like giant rock concerts. Unlike other RTS games that only allow you to control the action and not take part in it, Brütal Legend lets get your hands dirty in brawls as they happen. And with Eddie's wings, which he is awarded early on in the tale, it's extremely easy to navigate the battlefield as quickly as possible so you don't miss out on any of the action.
When you're not taking part in the story mission there are a huge number of secrets and unlockables for you to discover. Plus, as you progress through the game you're awarded Fire Tributes, which act as the game's currency, and can be spent at the Motor Forge on multiple upgrades for your axe, guitar and hot rod, the Deuce. This four-wheeled speedster is your means of transport and can be kitted out with everything from new paintwork to machine guns and guided missiles.
Rock 'n' roll cameos
While Jack Black may be the star of the game, Brütal Legend is nothing short of brilliant in its use of heavy metal celebrity voice work. Throughout your adventure you'll come across a wealth of celebrity cameos including Motörhead's Lemmy Kilmister, Judas Priest's Rob Halford, The Runaways' Lita Ford and Ozzy Osbourne.
Lemmy portrays The Killmaster, a character that heals your armies through a giant bass harp on the back of his motorbike, while Rob Halford takes on two roles playing both General Lionwhyte and The Baron, the villain of the game. Ford voices Rima, the leader of a group of jungle-like women that Eddie meets along the way. Funniest of all is Ozzy Osbourne's turn as The Guardian of Metal, a character that assists you in upgrading your equipment throughout the game, delivering some of the funniest lines along the way.
Brütal Legend features a whopping 107 tracks from 75 different bands, with each track in the game perfectly suited to the exact moment it's unveiled in the mission. Genres including heavy, industrial and doom metal are all featured with characters and factions represented by each of the specific styles. Artists including Diamond Head, Black Sabbath, Manowar, Kiss, Megadeth, Slayer, Rob Zombie and Marilyn Manson all feature on the killer soundtrack too.
Battle the world
Multiplayer mode in Brütal Legend is based around the game's RTS moments, where you'll choose a side from one of the game's factions - heroes or villains - and battle across a series of maps along with seven other players with your primary objective being the destruction of your opponent's base of operations. Once you have mastered these maps, there are additional ones for you to download from PlayStation Store.
The first pack released by developer Double Fine is The Tears of the Hexatdon. It includes two maps, The Circle of Tears, a new environment completely surrounded by water, while the second, Death's Fjord, takes place on an icy mountain path. With the promise of more great downloadable content, a hilarious single player campaign and unique multiplayer modes, Brütal Legend will have you headbanging to its beat for a long time to come.
