LocoRoco on PSP and Shadow of the Colossus on PS2 lead the way in this year's British Academy Video Games Awards.
A number of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe's (SCEE) key releases in the last year have gained some high praise from the prestigious British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA).
One of the principal functions of BAFTA is to identify and reward excellence in the platforms of the moving image. It achieves this objective by bestowing awards on those industry professionals who have excelled in their chosen field of expertise.
As well as recognition for the impact made by popular social gaming titles Buzz!: The BIG Quiz and SingStar Rocks!, the undoubted stars of the nominations are the insanely lovable LocoRoco on PSP and the adventure epic Shadow of the Colossus on PlayStation 2.
LocoRoco is an easy to learn, addictive puzzle game that uses simple tilting controls to get a LocoRoco to roll and bounce through fantastical environments. Including a unique sound track, LocoRoco is one of the most innovative games of 2006. It picked up eight nominations for awards, including Innovation, Artistic Achievement and Gameplay.
Shadow of the Colossus follows the journey of one young warrior as he sets out on an epic journey to bring his love back to life by overcoming 16 gargantuan beasts. It picked up five nominations including Original Score and Technical Achievement.
Other SCEE titles which picked up nominations include: 24: The Game, Daxter and B-Boy.
The winners will be announced at a ceremony on 5 October, 2006. For a full list of nominees check out the official BAFTA site.
