Entry Rules

  1. This Competition is open to UK residents aged 18 years or over, except employees and their immediate families of the Promoter, its associated companies, their agents, or anyone else professionally connected with the Competition. Proof of age may be required.
  2. This Competition is open for entries on 12 December 2011 and closes for entries on 6 January 2012 (the Competition Period).
  3. To enter this Competition, Entrants must complete the following steps during the Competition Period:

    Submitting the song title and first line

    a. Log onto their Facebook account and go to http://www.facebook.com/SingStarUK?sk=app_314886155195368 and vanity URL www.singstarfacebook.co.uk

    b. on the link to the 'Pass the Mic' application ­(the App) and click on the "Create" button. Entrants will be required to accept the request for permission to access the entrant's publically available information.

    c. Follow the on-screen instructions to enter a title and first line for the song lyrics.

    d. The Entrant can invite up to 25 friends per day - adhering to Facebook rules

    e. ("Collaborators") on Facebook can contribute as many lyrics as space allows, however it must be preceded by a lyric written by another Collaborator or the Entrant.

    f. The Entrant can delete lines submitted by Collaborators, until they are ready to submit the song lyrics in their final form.

    g. The Entrant at its sole discretion may use any of the lines the Collaborators have shared with the Entrant. The Entrant is not obligated to use the Collaborators lines.

    h. The song lyrics must be between 5 and 20 lines long before the Entrant can submit the song in its final form.

    i. When the Entrant is ready to submit the song lyrics they must click "Publish". The song will then be published to the leaderboard. Members of the public will be able to see and vote on lyrics once they have been published.

    j. During the song creation process, the lyrics will only be visible to Entrants and their Collaborators and will not be visible to the public.


  4. Entrants may only enter the Competition once.

  5. All entries must be original and the own work of the Entrant's and Collaborators (please click on the General Rules for further details).

  6. On submission at any stage during the Competition (either of a song title, lyric or the final version of the song), your entry and all materials created, developed or produced by you in connection with your entry shall become the property of the Promoter. You hereby assign to the Promoter all intellectual property rights (including future rights) in your entry and otherwise arising in connection with your entry. You also waive all moral rights in relation to your entry to which you may now or at any future time are entitled under the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988 as amended from time to time and under all similar legislation from time to time in force anywhere in the world.  You agree to take all such action and sign all such documentation as may be necessary to give effect to this section.

  7. You must adhere to the General Rules and in particular, to sections 7 and 8. In addition, entries must not contain any (i) sexually explicit language, (ii) abusive, offensive or hateful language, (iii) harassing or defamatory content, (iv) content that compromises the privacy or safety of an you or others, (v) content that demeans a particular gender, sexual orientation, disability, religion, ethnicity or nationality, (vi) incitation to violent or dangerous behaviour, and/or (vii) spam, advertising or other commercial activities.

  8. Entrants, Collaborators and their friends can vote in favour of lyrics by clicking on the "Vote" button relating to those lyrics. Each collaborator can vote on all songs - but not more than one vote per song is allowed.

  9. Subject to confirmation that none of these Terms and Conditions has been breached, the winning song lyrics will be the one that has received the most votes by the closing date. In the event that two or more sets of lyrics have the top number of votes, the best song lyrics will be selected by an independent judge. The decision of the judge is final.

  10. The Prize is: The Winner and up to 20 of their friends will be invited in February or March 2012 to record the winner's winning song at the Promoter's recording studio in London to music created by the Promoter's team. There is no requirement that these additional friends contributed to the lyrics either in their draft or final, published form.

  11. The winner will be notified by email to the email address associated with their Facebook account within 14 days of the closing date, and must claim their prize within 4 weeks of this notification being sent.

  12. The prize winner and their friends will be responsible for arranging transport to and from the Promoter's recording studio.

  13. The Promoter will use reasonable endeavours to finalise prize arrangements within 45 days of the prize-winner having claimed the prize (or within 45 days of the long stop date for claiming the prize, whichever is sooner) but does not accept any responsibility for arrangements being finalised later than this.

  14. The Promoter may want to film the winner and their friends during the recording session. By entering the Competition and accepting the benefit of the prize, the winner and their friends will be deemed to give the Promoter and its associated companies, licensees and assigns permission to: 


    a. photograph, film and record them during their visit;

    b. edit, alter, reproduce, publish and distribute any such photographs, recordings and films or anything derived from them (the Material) in any medium; and

    c. use the Material, in whole or in part, for any purposes it deems necessary to promote, advertise or exploit SingStarTM and anything connected with or derived from it, including on My SingStore Online and at http://www.facebook.com/SingStarUK?sk=app_314886155195368 and vanity URL www.singstarfacebook.co.uk


  15. The winner and their friends agree to waive any moral rights that they may have in the Material and to release the Promoter and its associated companies, licensees and assigns from any claims for payment in connection with their use of the Material.

  16. The Promoter may, at its sole discretion, publish the winner's name on the Promoter's website(s). The winner's name will be made available on request to those enclosing a stamped, addressed envelope marked 'SingStar - Pass the Mic Competition' to the following address: Sony Computer Entertainment Europe Limited, 10 Great Marlborough Street, London W1F 7LP United Kingdom within 6 weeks of the closing date specified above.

  17. The Promoter reserves the right to award the Prize to an alternative winner if the winner does not claim their Prize as outlined above.

  18. This Competition is in no way sponsored, endorsed or administered by, or associated with, Facebook. You are providing your information to the Promoter and not to Facebook. The information you provide will only be used to administer the competition. You agree that Facebook shall not have any liability in relation to this competition.

  19. No responsibility will be accepted by the Promoter or its agents or technical, hardware or software failures of any kind, or lost or unavailable network connections or failed, incomplete, completed or delayed computer transmission which affect entrants' ability to enter the Competition or for any other reason beyond its control.

  20. There is no cash alternative to the Prize.  The Prize may not be sold, offered for sale or used in connection with any other competition or promotion by the Winner.

  21. If there is any reason to believe that there has been a breach of the Terms and Conditions or incorrect, illegible, fraudulent or other invalid or improper information has been provided, or if there are duplicate and or invalid votes, the Promoter may at their sole discretion refuse to process an entry or fulfill any prize awarded.

  22. Events may occur that render the Competition itself or the awarding of Prize impossible due to unforeseen circumstances or reasons beyond the control of the Promoter.  In this situation, the Promoter may at its discretion vary or amend Prizes so as to provide a reasonable alternative Prize. Prize winner and their guest agree that no liability shall attach to the Promoter as a result.
