PSP system software updates

Download the latest PSP system software to take full advantage of all PSP has to offer.

In order to get the most out of your PSP, you should ensure that you are running the latest version of the PSP system software.

You can see what version of the system software your PSP is running by going to [Settings] and selecting [System Settings]. Then, select System Information to view the current system software version.

You can update the system software by any of the following methods:

Network Update
Use the PSP system's Wireless functionality to download the latest system software version via Wireless (WLAN) Access Point.

PC Update
You can download the latest system software update using a PC connected to the Internet, and then transfer it to your PSP using a USB cable with a Mini-B type connector.

  1. Ensure that a Memory Stick Duo with sufficient memory is inserted in your PSP.
  2. Connect your PSP to your PC using a USB cable with a Mini-B type connector.
  3. Switch on your PSP and navigate to Settings > [USB Connection] on the Home Menu and press the X button to activate USB Mode. The PC should recognise your PSP as an external drive.
  4. Open this drive as a folder on your PC and, if you have not done so already, create a folder for the update data within it. Using your PC, create a folder named 'PSP' on the Memory Stick Duo. Within the 'PSP' folder, create a folder named 'GAME'. Within the 'GAME' folder, create a folder named 'UPDATE' (this folder is case sensitive and must appear in all capital letters).
  5. Select Download now from the PSP system software section of http://eu.playstation.com and click on Agree. When prompted by your PC, save the file to the UPDATE folder on your Memory Stick Duo.
  6. Once the file has downloaded, disconnect your PSP from your PC.
  7. Ensuring that the AC Adaptor is plugged into your PSP, press the Circle button to exit USB Mode, navigate to Game > [Memory Stick] and select the update data.
  8. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation process.
  9. Once complete, you can delete the update data from your Memory Stick Duo.

If you do not have a USB cable with a Mini-B type connector, you can transfer the data from your PC to your Memory Stick Duo using a Magic Gate compatible Memory Stick USB reader/writer.

Ensure that a Memory Stick Duo with sufficient memory is inserted in your USB reader/writer and connect this to your PSP and then complete Steps 4 and 5 above. Once you have downloaded the file to the Memory Stick Duo, insert this into your PSP and continue from Step 7 above.

Alternatively, if your PC has a Memory Stick Duo slot, insert this into your PC and complete Steps 4 and 5 above. Once you have downloaded the file to the Memory Stick Duo, insert this into your PSP and continue from Step 7 above.
