Members of the eu.playstation.com forum community fired off their questions to Mark Rein, Vice President of Epic Games, the development team behind Unreal Tournament 3. This is what he had to say...
For someone like me who has never played an Unreal Tournament game, what can the game offer me? [Jack_malone, Spain]
UT3 is a fast-action, guns-blazing shooter in stunning environments with amazing weaponry and vehicles. What I personally enjoy about it is that I can get in play, either online or offline against bots, for a few minutes and still get have a great experience.
How many people participated on this project? [blackknight59, France]
I believe the core size of the team has been around 30 people but approximately 50 people worked on the game at various times.
What is it like to work at a major project such as Unreal Tournament? Don't you get a lot of pressure to keep pushing the limits further, with larger maps, more hardcore sounds, new vehicles and more? [Nurf, Netherlands]
The key to putting out a great game is making sure all of the content you actually ship with is great content. So you have to resist adding too many bells and whistles.
Why does every male character in the game have such enormous muscles? [Dragonsummoner, Netherlands]
They work out. They have to be in great shape to be in our game.
Will there be online events organised by Epic Games? [hostes, Austria]
We let our publisher handle things like that. If they set it up we'll come to play. We enjoy playing our game with the fans.
Will there be an in-game Friends List or will we use the PSN Friends List? [Pacio, Italy]
We have an in-game Friends List.
Are you already planning a new update for the game? If so, when will we be able to play it and what would it include? [Nachokaos, Spain]
Yes we have an update on the way. There are too many things in it for me to list here but it is a really good update and you should have it soon.
Will there be additional content packs from Epic Games? [Stargatefreak, Germany]
Yes!
Have you ever wanted to develop genres of games other than shooters? [nova, Ireland]
We have developed other genres in the past. Right now we're into shooters.
Every Unreal game has a large arsenal of weapons available, each of which are spectacular in their own way. Which weapon is your favourite and why? [Lijpo, Netherlands]
I love the Flak Cannon. How can you not love a weapon that shoots molten hots shards of metal? :)
Would you ever consider handing Unreal Tournament to a film company, for a live-action movie? [Deathvein, UK]
We would consider it if a major studio approached us wanting to do it.
Where do you see Epic games FPS's going in the future? Further development of graphics and lifelike physics or more emphasis on improving the background stories, groundbreaking gameplay and personalising the characters? [Gribben, Denmark]
Yes - all of these things actually!
Thanks to everyone who sent their questions in. Those who had their questions answered above will receive an Unreal Tournament 3 collectible hardback art book, which features an exclusive look behind the art of Epic's game, complete with an exploration of its weapons, vehicles and characters.
