Kazuhito Miyaki and Yusuke Watanabe, the developers behind The Eye of Judgment on PlayStation 3, talk about CyberCode technology and this new, interactive medium.

For those new to The Eye of Judgment, can you explain the concept behind the game?

With The Eye of Judgment we intended to propose a totally new way of gaming by combining digital and analogue entertainment.

How did the game come about? What sparked the idea and how did it develop?

The expression itself was already used in comic books, anime, and movies and the idea continued to develop inside my head. When I saw the CyberCode technology, it freed my imagination and made it into reality. The important aspect during the steps of realising the ideas was concentrating on creating something that has strong impact as well as a concrete gaming experience.

How does the PlayStation Eye distinguish between the cards?

With a special CyberCode encoded on the card, the PlayStation Eye camera processes the direction and tilt of the card and its ID at the same time.

How does The Eye of Judgment compare to a more traditional Collectable Card Game?

First and foremost are the creatures coming to life out of the card in your hand. Also, the system processes all the complex calculation of battle resolution and helps you proceed with the game so that you can concentrate and fully enjoy the strategic play of card games.

Moreover, with Hasbro selling cards globally, you can play against anyone around the world via online.

Can you explain the online elements of the game and how they will work?

You can take part in a Ranking Match using official rules, or a Custom Match using customised rules. You need to register your deck before the battle by scanning all the cards you wish to include in the deck with the camera. During battle, PlayStation 3 manages your library of cards and hand from the registered deck, so there are no chances for anyone to cheat.

How do you plan to support The Eye of Judgment after its launch?

To satisfy the players' needs for stronger and rare cards, we will look to regularly provide new ones. Although specifics are not decided yet, we would like to hold online events and tournaments, and will have a dedicated site on the web to support players.
