David Reeves, President of SCEE, confirmed more details of PSP Slim & Lite and announced new products in the Go! range at Games Convention in Leipzig.

"In the same way that PS3 is not just a TV based gaming machine, PSP is not just a handheld gaming machine. It is a versatile, all round and very capable entertainment machine," said David Reeves at SCEE's Leipzig press conference.

To a packed audience, comprised of journalists and guests, David Reeves went on to outline the most exciting developments yet for PSP since the system's launch.

Confirming that the new PSP Slim & Lite would be available in three colours - black, white and silver, David Reeves displayed each one to the crowd. What became readily apparent however, as he announced that PSP Slim & Lite would be available in Europe on the 5 September, 2007, was that he was holding five colours including yellow and red.

The additional colours were soon revealed to be limited editions exclusive to the SCEE territories. The yellow PSP will be available bundled with Electonic Arts' The Simpsons Game, while the red fronted PSP follows a Spider-Man theme and will be bundled with Activision's upcoming Spider-Man game.

Expanding the PSP system's functionality, David Reeves went on to announce three new products in the Go! range, which began with the release of the Go!Cam PSP camera this summer.

Go!Messenger is a joint undertaking with British Telecom to provide voice and video chat via PSP in Europe.

"Starting with a system software update in the new year, PSP owners will be able to download a small program that will allow them to hold voice chats and send instant messages to each other over WiFi with other PSP owners, wherever they may be in the world," Said David Reeves. "If you connect the Go!Cam PSP camera you will also be able to use video chat and send video messages to other users who don't have a Go!Cam for their PSP."

Go!Explore is a GPS device and software for the PSP, which can provide not only directions but a huge variety of overlays of information from speed cameras and petrol stations to restaurants and places of interest. The demo shown was of a short trip across central London, familiar landmarks leaping from the angled 2D map to give the user easy points of reference.

Finally, more details of the new initiative with British Sky Broadcasting to bring Sky content to PSP owners in the UK and Ireland was revealed. Launching early next year this exclusive service will cover a mix of Sky content, spanning sports, entertainment, movies, TV shows, music and animation.

This incredible line-up of new opportunities for PSP owners was preceded by an uplifting video montage of future titles including Kratos' PSP debut in God of War: Chains of Olympus, the music driven action of Patapon and brain-teasing Echochrome.

IMPORTANT NOTICE
As of 31 March 2009 the Go!Messenger service is no longer available.
