The Golden Compass, based on Philip Pullman's acclaimed novel, arrives on PlayStation this Christmas courtesy of Sega.
Based on the first novel in Philip Pullman's best-selling Dark Materials trilogy and the motion picture from New Line Cinema, Golden Compass the game promises to mirror the key events and expand the action of both the book and film.
An exciting fantasy adventure, The Golden Compass is set in a world where giant armoured bears rule a kingdom, beautiful witches fly through the frozen skies and a human's deepest essence manifests itself as a talking animal - their daemon.
Cast in the central role of Lyra Belacqua, you will embark on a quest to rescue your kidnapped uncle from the mysterious organisation known as The Gobblers. Helping you in this endeavour is Pan - your pet spirit daemon, Iorek - a large and armoured polar bear, and of course the Golden Compass - a mysterious truth-telling device, which will help lead the way.
Gameplay ranges from having to use your wits and skill to evade enemies as Lyra, helped by her daemon that can morph into different animals, to overcoming obstacles with brute strength as Iorek.
The rescue of Lyra's uncle will entail the use of a combination of both approaches, while challenging in-game puzzles that require the truth-finding Golden Compass to solve will unlock additional content for you to explore.
Scheduled for release on PlayStation 3, PlayStation Portable and PlayStation 2 Christmas 2007, just before the opening of New Line Cinema's adaptation, the game will feature footage from the film and likenesses of the cast, including Nicole Kidman as Mrs. Coulter and Daniel Craig as Lord Asriel.
