Sna-fu, the Parisian based band behind some of the latest videos on PlayStation Store, share their thoughts on music.
In 2007, Sna-fu released their first album Tonnerre Binaire. Heavily influenced by Swedish hardcore music, they've chalked up three years of live performances, honing their trademark explosion of decibels...
They're working on their second album, but took time out to talk about Music and Movement.
How would you describe your music to someone who hasn't heard it before?
It's rock'n'roll chaos and organised destruction. It's like a wolf screaming at the light of the full moon with loud melodic riffs, furious and crazy rhythms and an assassin bass.
So, how did you get together?
Three of us five are friends since primary school, we've been living in the same area and head banging to the same beats... We decided to create a band in summer of 2000 when we were still in high school. We made our first concerts, it was fantastic to play together and the adventure continued with touring - France, Switzerland and Belgium for the moment.
Who are your musical influences?
We have plenty of influences from Led Zeppelin to The Dillinger Escape Plan and Converge, from AC/DC to At The Drive-In and The Mars Volta, from Pink Floyd to Refused and The Hives, from Queen to Ennio Morricone and Queens of the Stone Age.
What subjects do you tackle in your lyrics?
We speak about life, freedom, man's evolution, love and passion... We don't write any songs about politics.
Your music is available for download from PlayStation Store. How are the Internet and downloads changing the face of the music industry?
L'industrie de la musique est morte. Vive l'industrie de la musique ! - The music industry is dead! Long live the music industry! For us and many other bands, it's a fantastic opportunity to present our music to all. It's an important tool to make our project grow, to meet people, musicians and partners. But most of our fans want CDs with booklets, lyrics, drawings and pictures, plus one thing which can't be replaced by the Internet - live shows.
What do you think of the general perception of music from France?
Major French artists are variety singers. French musicians have a strong reputation in electro but many rock bands would deserve to be more famous as Dysby, Headcharger, Psykup, The Elektrocution, Noïd, Revival Kensuke, MacZde Carpate and many more. Some French bands have had international careers and we really want to follow this path.
Are you touring this year? Will you be doing any festivals?
We have already had a great tour this year and played at festivals such as Packrock fest and Durbuy rock fest, Les Vieilles Charrues remettent le son, Reperkusound, and Les Eurockéennes. We played with many great bands like Sick Of It All, Infectious Groove, Arkangel, Girls In Hawaï... We're working towards a new tour in autumn, so be prepared, it's going to swing, to sweat, to Rock!
Sna-fu's Movement videos can be downloaded from PlayStation Store. More about Sna-fu can be found on their MySpace page, myspace.com/snafurocks.
