A look at the pick of the PS2 titles unveiled at this year’s PlayStation Day
EyeToy® Play: Hero
EyeToy Play: Hero puts the player in the shoes of a noble warrior and comes with a brightly coloured toy sword, which they must use in a variety of ways in pursuing the mischievous warlock.
The game's greatest strength lies in the sword's many uses as you progress through the story mode. As well as blocking and striking enemies, you'll need to hide it behind your back to avoid detection, hack your way through undergrowth, and duck to evade the Black Knight's blade.
EyeToy Play: Hero offers unique, exciting gameplay and its colourful cartoon graphics and tongue-in-cheek humour make for a game the entire family can enjoy.
EyeToy® Play: PomPom Party
Using the brightly coloured pompoms included, this rhythm action game will unlock the hidden cheerleader within us all.
Controls are responsive as you wave your pompoms to 25 original music tracks and the EyeToy USB camera's microphone is used nicely, allowing you to call out chants as part of your routine. The graphics are colourful and cheerful, and more cheerleaders join in with you depending on how well you do, which is a nice touch.
As with all EyeToy games, seeing yourself on television is great fun for players of all ages, and with the addition of pompoms, EyeToy Play: PomPom Party is another title that combines innovation and accessible play.
WALL●E
WALL●E is based on the Pixar movie of the same name and is the story of a cleaning robot left alone on Earth long after the humans have evacuated.
Developer Heavy Iron has worked closely with Pixar Animation Studios and produced exclusive content that fills in the backstory of the film's central character. Controlling WALL●E is exciting as he wheels around deserted levels, jumping off ramps and destroying rubbish with his laser.
Later levels mix things up, featuring chases through space and the ability to control EVE - WALL●E's love interest - in co-operative missions. Heavy Iron has established a good reputation for its movie tie-ins and WALL●E is fun, graphically impressive and true to the film with which it shares its name.
Dancing StageTM SuperNOVA 2
The world's most popular dancing game is back and it's worth breaking out the dance mat.
Dancing Stage SuperNOVA 2 provides everything the series is famed for: tonnes of songs and game modes, as well as difficulty levels that range from gentle foot tapping to dances so fast your feet will be a blur. Workout Mode makes a return, encouraging you to work up a sweat to one of over 70 songs, as does EyeToy support, which introduces hand movements to routines.
Dancing Stage SuperNOVA 2 follows in Konami's tradition of creating accessible rhythm games that offer simple gameplay for beginners and a genuine challenge for veterans. It's as much fun to play as its predecessors and perfect to bring out at a party.
