Welcome to the 1980s. Welcome to Vice City, a huge urban sprawl stretching from the beach to the swamps and the glitz to the ghetto, a town brimming with delights and degradation. Tommy Vercetti is set up and loses everything. Sonny Forelli wants his money back, but the biker gangs, Cuban gangsters and corrupt politicians stand in his way. His only answer is to fight back and take over the city himself.

One of the most popular game series of all time, GTA offers a mix of freedom, style and humour that few games can match. The successful formula is back in Vice City Stories, as players take control of Vic Vance, a disgraced ex-serviceman with a distinguished career in crime laying ahead of him in the sun-drenched urban sprawl of Vice City.

The familiar 1980s setting of the original GTA: Vice City returns, with Vice City Stories boasting another superb soundtrack that matches the action perfectly.

With new missions, memorable characters and the signature GTA gameplay, Vice City Stories is a welcome return to the decade that style forgot.

  • The PSP (PlayStation Portable) hit comes to PS2
  • Features new characters and missions, and an all-time classic location to explore
  • Fantastic 1980s soundtrack complements the action

Vice little earner

The GTA phenomenon keeps on trucking as Vice City Stories makes the transition to PlayStation 2.

Grand Theft Auto is one of a few select game series that genuinely needs no introduction. Hugely successful, its influence has even spread beyond the world of games, with its distinctive cover designs aped in graffiti and club posters the world over.

None of this would have happened, however, if GTA didn't offer a fantastic gaming experience - with its memorable characters, atmospheric locations and knowing humour, GTA has always been a hoot to play. So revisiting a location like Vice City is like catching up with an old friend.

Meet Vic Vance

The protagonist in Vice City Stories is a soldier named Vic Vance - but predictably, the actions you get up to in GTA games mean he doesn't remain a soldier for very long. Kicked out of the army, it's time to build a new crime empire on the streets of Vice City - and have a blast doing so.

As with the original GTA: Vice City, the 1980s setting adds to the experience immeasurably, and the soundtrack adds an extra dimension of enjoyment for players old enough to remember it.

The last Grand Theft Auto game before the arrival of GTA IV on PlayStation 3 later this year, Vice City Stories is a welcome reminder of just why the series has proved so popular in the first place. If you haven't played it on PSP, another stroll around Vice City comes recommended on PS2.
