Stealth, espionage and haute cuisine are the order of the day. Bon appetit!

Snake's back. Or is he? The gruff, unshaven star of MGS3 certainly looks familiar, but the 1960s setting poses some tough questions about his age.

All will no doubt be revealed as master storyteller Hideo Kojima unravels his latest gripping yarn of stealth and subterfuge, which combines the well loved 'hide and seek' formula of Snake's previous exploits with intriguing new elements such as a jungle environment, camouflage and hunting for food.

MGS3 is set some forty years ago during the Cold War, which means you won't have support via Codec and nor will you have a fancy array of futuristic weapons with which to dispatch enemies.

Snake (or his facsimile) is heading to the jungle so it's back to basics: a complete set of authentic 1960s pistols and automatic weapons or, for Close Quarters Combat, knife and fists. Don't worry though; he might have an older cache of weapons, but Snake has some devastating new tricks up his camouflaged sleeves.

Our man in the jungle can take out enemies (even multiple assailants) using hand-to-hand combat. He has camouflage to suit every environment, including thick jungle, long grass and even fire. He can even shimmy up trees and drop down on enemies or, better yet, hang from a branch with one hand and shoot with the other.

Of course, all of this is hungry work for our hero and, regrettably for anyone with a weak stomach, it's your job to keep him fed...

  • New CQC (Close Quarters Combat) system - engage your enemies in hand-to-hand or knife-based combat

  • Blend into your surroundings with a range of camouflage types

  • Keep Snake's strength up by feeding him indigenous reptiles, birds and fish
