Bejeweled makes its debut on PlayStation and it’s out of this world.

Bejeweled 2 is a game that sparkles from start to finish… quite literally. This brightly coloured sequel brings an exciting new look to the classic puzzle game. Much like other games of this type Bejeweled 2 relies a simple mix and match format which has been popular for many a year.

The game challenges you to create rows of jewels, gems and crystals (in minimums of three) in order to clear the board and rack up high scores. You can do this through its four main game modes, namely: Classic, a lively remake of games past; Action, a fast passed scramble against the clock; Puzzle, a vast galaxy of tricky conundrums; and, Endless, a relaxing no-pressure option with countless possibilities.

From the cleverly worked power gems which explode surrounding jewels when brought into a similar row to create three or more, to the hard to gain yet well implemented hyper gems which will destroy all jewels of the same colour you next swap them with.

Another added bonus to this game can be found in the exciting Puzzle mode. Here you will need to negotiate your way through seemingly endless galaxies using new tricks and tips that are picked up along the way. Each new galaxy you enter will show you new abilities that can be gained, or introduce new obstacles to overcome, therefore getting you to grips with the game as a whole. However, don’t be fooled into thinking this is easy, for the further you strive to achieve your ultimate goal of reaching Earth the more complex and thought provoking your task becomes. Indeed, you’ll be forced to use all the skills learnt along the way to destroy boulders and negotiate tricky groups of jewels.

For the competitive there is a chance to compete with others. Although Bejeweled 2 is a single player game, you can pit your high scores against those around the world by checking the online leaderboard. This added dimension is a welcome addition to an already well established game and is yet another addictive feature.

Bejeweled 2’s easy and understandable structure makes it fun for all, regardless of age or gender. The addition of trophies and other such awards are a great morale boost which leaves you with a satisfied sense of achievement.
