Burn Zombie Burn is a third-person shoot’em-up in the classic coin-op tradition but with all new game-play mechanics.

The goal is simple: to get the highest score possible. Standing in your way is a never-ending horde of zombies. To survive you must shoot, burn and explode as many zombies as possible before they overwhelm you.

Fire is your most important tool and massive scores can be achieved by burning the zombies en masse and setting up huge chains of explosions that wipe them out in one go. Fire is a double-edged sword – a burning zombie is faster and more dangerous – so be careful as too many of them will overwhelm you.

The game’s protagonist is Bruce, who must battle the zombies across all six maps and all three modes.

Light up the undead in Burn Zombie Burn

Burn Zombie Burn combines two of the most dangerous things known to man: fire and zombies!

There's a dilemma at the heart of Burn Zombie Burn, a downloadable title exclusive to PlayStation Store: with hundreds of bloodthirsty zombies lurching towards you, dare you set them on fire and make them even angrier?

You control Bruce, a guy looking forward to spending Saturday evening with his girlfriend Daisy when a zombie invasion takes over his town. The game is played from a top-down perspective, and the aim is to score as many points as you can by killing anything that lurches towards you. You can use your flame-thrower to set them on fire, but beware: while this boosts your score multiplier it also makes them more aggressive.

The weapons scattered around the six arenas include shotguns, machine guns, cricket bats, chainsaws and a device that sends everyone you point it at into an uncontrollable dance. You can also pick up dynamite and string together explosions for big points. There's a reward for combining your attacks, as chaining together kills using three different weapons opens a switch that triggers an environmental attack.

The environments are all inspired by classic American horror and take in suburbia, an army base, a secret lab and more. There are also lots of wacky enemies, including zombies that explode when they get close, charging American football players and ones that emit toxic gas. The art style is cartoon-like, but far from childish, with blood and burning limbs flying across the screen when the action heats up.

As well as Arcade mode, where the aim is to grab as many points as you can to win medals, there are Challenges, where you have a limited range of weapons and must work against a Time Limit, and Defend Daisy, where your girlfriend is in her car in the centre of the arena and you have to protect her from the invasion. All can be played with or against a friend in Co-operative and Battle modes.

Burn Zombie Burn is fast paced and addictive, with an entertaining blend of environments and enemies. Things get frantic when you have a screen filled with flaming zombies and there is always something unexpected around the corner.
