With fast paced action, crushing hits and loads of room to experiment, 3 on 3 NHL Arcade will have gamers from all walks of life excited about hockey.
Game-changing power-ups fall onto the ice throughout each session. Fly down the ice with a super-speed skater and beat a giant sprawling goalie with a trick move for that highlight reel finish.
Pick between button controls that allow gamers of all skill levels to pass, shoot, hit and break out the all-new trick moves with ease, or the more advanced Skill Stick controls from NHL 09.
In addition to standard ranked matches, 3 on 3 NHL Arcade lets three players on one PS3 play three other players on another PS3 anywhere in the world.
3 on 3 NHL Arcade is a mini-celebration of ice hockey, with all of the violence left in.
Despite strong support in Russia and Scandinavia, ice hockey has never enjoyed a mass following in the rest of Europe. However, the NHL and NHL 2K series remain popular after all these years; perhaps the fast paced action, high scoring matches and legal violence make for a good videogame.
3 on 3 NHL Arcade attempts to strip away the rules and tactics that may seem daunting to a casual observer and focus on action, aggression and showboating, much like the FIFA Street series did for football. There are only two teams, blue and red, although they can be filled with your own selection of NHL stars, and each side is made up of four players including a goaltender.
After that, there are no rules; you can charge your opponents into the barriers and trip them up as much as you like. Also, hitting a rival will award you with an outrageous power-up, such as the ability to skate more quickly, to grow into a giant or even freeze a member of the other team into a block of ice.
Six players can face off against each other in multiplayer, where the game really shines. Online matches are quick and easy to set up and there are leaderboards with which to test yourself against the best in the world.
Completing the fun package is a batch of Trophies to chase, such as Brick Wall, which is unlocked by not conceding any goals, and Jack of all Trades, which entails scoring five goals in a match using five different power-ups.
3 on 3 NHL Arcade is a great party game and an accessible alternative to full ice hockey titles. Skate over to PlayStation Store to check it out.
